About FSW

FSW’s charge is simple. Making it happen is anything but. Our staff use a wide array of tools and techniques to help people build on their existing skills to conquer adversity and find hope for the future. With our help, FSW clients and their families connect to internal and external resources that enable them to make positive, lasting changes in their lives.

Individuals or families come to us for help when life’s difficulties threaten to overwhelm them. They may be dealing with HIV positive status, domestic violence, illiteracy or hearing impairment. They may be moving from welfare to work, facing a housing crisis, leaving a juvenile detention program to re-enter the community, or caring for an aging parent. Those with serious psychiatric difficulties may rely on our Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services to help them become successful members of the community. People who are coping with traumatic loss, parenting struggles, stress, or anxiety can take advantage of our Mental Health Services. Other FSW programs, like our subsidiary, Family Assets, LLC, help community members realize their dreams of owning a home, earning a college degree, or starting their own business.

FSW has collaborative relationships with some 85 public and private local, regional and national coalitions, task forces, organizations and agencies that help us to best serve our clients and stay abreast of the latest practices and innovations in our field. We also monitor emerging needs and are able to design new programs to meet them.

FSW programs serve the six towns of greater Bridgeport (Bridgeport, Fairfield, Easton, Monroe, Stratford, and Trumbull) and the State of Connecticut. The FSW of today has emerged from 150 years of experience serving this area. Through that time we have evolved and grown in order to meet the ever-changing needs of our community. We know that our neighbors are doing their best to provide a safe, viable home life for themselves and their families. In return, our staff does its best to help them in their efforts to achieve long-term success. We are, after all, committed to our goal, always working to strengthen our communities.

FSW is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children, Inc., is a member of the national Alliance for Children and Families, the Connecticut Council of Family Services Agencies and the United Way of Eastern Fairfield County. Furthermore, FSW is certified by the State of Connecticut as a licensed mental health clinic for both adults and children.
